Read the December issue of SENSEABILITY on Mindfulness and Movement

Marsha Novak GCFP, guest editor

Welcome to the December issue of SenseAbility.

For many of you who think of the Feldenkrais Method® as it relates to helping with painful and other debilitating conditions, this might seem like an odd theme. I certainly would have thought so when I embarked on my journey with this method back in the 1990s. I was a physical therapist merely looking for a more holistic approach to the physical problems people brought my way. By the time I graduated from my training in 2003 I felt I had found that.

We live in a culture where the word "mindfulness" seems to be everywhere. Over the years as I reflected on and practiced the Feldenkrais Method, it became increasingly clear that there is a very real connection between how we pay attention to the feeling of movement in Feldenkrais® lessons and mindful awareness in all aspects of life. The benefits of this go far beyond just decreasing back pain. This is something I feel is worth sharing.

I hope you enjoy reading this issue.
Thank you to Cynthia Allen, Seth Dellinger, and Margot Schaal for their contributions.
