2016 Call For Proposals
“The Tipping Point - Propelling the Feldenkrais Method® into the Mainstream”
Feldenkrais Method Annual Conference 2016
July 7-10, 2016 in Asheville, NC, on the campus of the
University of North Carolina*, Asheville (UNCA)
Deadline for Proposals: October 20, 2015
September 7, 2015
Our 2016 conference theme will be “The Tipping Point - Propelling the Feldenkrais Method® into the Mainstream.” The Feldenkrais Method is at a tipping point. Are you ready to help move it into the mainstream?
Like-minded practitioners will be convening in Asheville, NC for Conference 2016 from July 7th to July 10th. Will you be among them?
We invite you to share your own ideas about how to make the Feldenkrais Method a household word by submitting a proposal to teach at the Conference next summer.
We ask you to consider the following questions and ideas as you draft your proposal:
- How do you define the essence of the Feldenkrais Method for the public?
- How do you embody the essence of the Feldenkrais Method as you represent the work to the public or to fellow practitioners?
- In what novel ways have you made the work accessible to your students?
- If you are proposing a workshop for practitioners and/or trainees, how will the attendees be able to use what they learn in a concrete way that is in line with the IFF Competency Profile?
Conference 2016 marks a landmark in the professional development of the Feldenkrais Method. Taking our cue from most professional conferences, presenters will continue to receive a significant discount for the conference, but no teaching fee. Our goal is to use Conference to create a collegial environment where our community of professionals freely shares skills, ideas and insights. We’re re-allocating these resources to new possibilities - like video-streaming and advertising, and opening the door to a future of community and shared learning.
In addition, we are adding some new features that we hope will add excitement and new ideas to our community and the public (see below.)
You will submit your proposal online. Be sure to fill out the entire form. Please use the theme “The Tipping Point - Propelling the Feldenkrais Method into the Mainstream,” as a guide when preparing your proposal.
Your proposal will contain:
- Title, audience (public, practitioners, etc.), length (½ day, full day)
- A description of your workshop
- Technical needs
- Any biographical info that is relevant to your subject
In the spirit of expanding the proposal format and stepping away from the usual structure, we are inviting potential presenters to also offer further information by using the following resources:
- Video - No longer than five minutes
- PowerPoint - No longer than fifteen slides
- Word document - One page

New for 2016!Feldenkrais Film Festival
2016 will inaugurate our Feldenkrais Film Competition. Submissions of videos made for the public will be judged by the Conference committee, and finalists’ films will be screened at the Conference. Conference attendees will vote live, at the Conference, and the winner will receive a FREE Guild Membership for the year.
Do you have something to share about your work? Have you integrated the Feldenkrais Method into another field in a unique fashion? Do you have a compelling story to tell about a student, or a unique way you have approached your teaching? Based on the TED Talks model, selected speakers will have fourteen minute slots to share their passion at a Conference luncheon. Talks will be videoed and shared online. Take stock and think - “What ideas would I LOVE to share?”
Both the Feldenkrais Film Festival and the FeldenTalks will have a separate proposal process. Stay tuned!
Small Group Mentoring
The increasingly popular mentoring sessions with experienced volunteer practitioners guiding small groups will round out Conference 2016. Are you interested in serving as a mentor? If so, please let us know. We will contact you later with details.
Although we have some exciting ideas, we are still searching for a Keynote speaker. Some names are being investigated, but if you have ideas, we’d love to hear them.
Share YOUR talents - we look forward to hearing from you!
