National 4H Youth Conference Center, Chevy Chase, MD
Workshops: September 27-30, 2018
February 27, 2018
We are delighted to announce that the 2018 Feldenkrais Method® Conference will take place in Washington, DC, September 26-30. Our conference theme is “The Art and Science of Transformation.”
In choosing this year’s theme, we considered some of the words that practitioners and clients often use when talking about our work, and one we kept returning to was “transformation.” We, as well as our clients and students, feel transformed after an Awareness Through Movement® or Functional Integration® lesson, while we also look to create transformation in our work.
What defines a transformative experience? What is my/our role in the process of transformation? How much of our work is science, how much is art? Can it be defined?
We’d like you to explore these ideas by attending conference 2018 in Washington, an exciting, diverse and rapidly transforming city where there is a rich blend of the arts and sciences. The site for Conference 2018 will be the National 4H Youth Conference Center, a large conference facility located in Chevy Chase, MD, within easy access to 3 airports (BWI Baltimore, DCA Ronald Reagan, and Washington Dulles) as well as metro (Friendship Heights) and buses. It is spacious and is set in attractive grounds, with excellent accommodation at affordable prices, as well as limited free parking.
If you are interested in submitting a request to present, and we hope you are, please use the theme “The Art and Science of Transformation” as a guide when preparing your proposal. We hope you feel inspired and excited!
We invite you to submit a workshop proposal to present at the Conference this fall. Please submit your initial proposal form by April 8, 2018: Please click here and read more about the proposal process. You will submit your proposal online.
By popular request, we will be bringing back a couple of favorite events from Conference 2016 in Asheville:
Feldenkrais Film Festival
In 2016 we inaugurated the Feldenkrais Film Competition and it will once again be an important part of Conference 2018 in Washington. Submissions of videos made for the public will be judged by the Conference Planning Committee, and finalists’ films will be screened at the conference. Conference attendees will vote live, at the conference, and the winners will receive a FREE Guild Membership for the year. Stay tuned for the Call for Video Submissions.
Do you have something to share about your work? Have you integrated the Feldenkrais Method into another field in a unique fashion? Do you have a compelling story to tell about a student or a unique way you have approached your teaching? Based on the TED talks and pecha kucha models, selected speakers will have just over 6-minute slots to share their passion at the annual party. Look for the Call for Submissions in April, so you have a few weeks to think - “What would I LOVE to share?” But no more than 6 minutes!
Small Group Mentoring
The popular mentoring sessions with experienced volunteer practitioners and assistant trainers guiding small groups will once again round out Conference 2018. Are you interested in serving as a mentor? If so, please let us know. We will contact you with details.
Our goal is to use Conference 2018 to create a supportive and safe environment where our community of professionals freely share their skills, ideas, and experience to create transformation.
We look forward to seeing you in Washington!
