Floating Head
The carriage of our head has a profound effect on how we relate to our environment, others, and our sense of self. The position of the head is important for orienting, which is critical for effortless movement. In this 2-part series, we will wake up the upper thoracic region and the base of the neck. What will follow is a transformation: from habituated holding to freedom of the floating head. We will aim for the head that “floats freely with the smoothness of a cork floating on water”(Moshe Feldenkrais, The Potent Self). Once the head can float, the improvements in standing and balance will follow.
